Concert Review: Ministry, Gary Numan, and Front Line Assembly

Ministry, currently on tour with supporting acts Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly, stopped at the Roadrunner in Boston on March 18th. It was an absolute blast! What was a great venue to hold this industrial show featuring this amazing trio!  I have been a big fan of all three bands for a long time so I did my best to keep my composure in the photo pit as I danced between snapshots. Even the phenomenal Gary Numan reached out and touched my hand. One word to describe the whole show? Epic

Frontline assembly, hailing from Canada,  was a fantastic opener to start the night off. Machine sounds, heavy drums and flashing lights. Set list consisted of;

I.E.D

Vigilante

Deadened

Plasticity

Killing Grounds

Mindphaser

Millennium

Gary Numan came on right after FLA. He played a beautiful mix of songs right down to his 1980’s hits. His whole stage presence had an ‘apocalyptic feel’ to it with neat images in the background. Gary showed us he still has it with his amazing dance moves and eerie echoing vocal sounds. The guitar and bass player were super animated in a robotic way as well with each other and the crowd. They were all so in sync with each other. The set list consisted of:

Everything comes down to this

Halo

The chosen

Metal

Pure

Love hurt bleed

Is this world not enough

Then, as soon as ‘Cars’ broke out, the crowd went super wild with “all hail Gary” and cell phones out galore. Set Continued with…

Haunted

Pray for the pain you serve

My name is ruin

A prayer for the unborn

Ministry, the man band of the night, was a HUGE crowd pleaser. Starting off the set with a handful of newer songs. Good ‘ol Uncle Al still has a fantastic stage presence with mega energy. The current line up, which included;

Al Jorgensen- vocals/guitar

Cesar Soto- guitar

Monte Pittman- guitar

Paul D’Amour- bass

Toy Mayorga- drums

John Bechdel- keys

They were all super tight and worked creatively well together. The set list included:

B.D.E

Just stop oil

Goddamn white trashy

Aryana embarrassment

New religion

Alert level

Broken system

And this is where Al says “ What’s up Boston I know your food and your language- ‘wicked awesome!’ I like it! We began with newer songs. Now let’s give out some doggie treats, like little squeaky  toys”. And they broke out with an oldie but a goodie, ‘N.W.O.’ The crowd broke out in screams and lots of jumping throughout.

And the set list continued on with:

Just one fix

Stigmata

Thieves

Jesus built my hot Rod

Encore:

Burning inside

Ricky’s hand (performing with Gary Numan)
