Concert Review: Glass Animals at Riverbend Music Center
On August 25th, a 95 degree Sunday evening, the Glass Animals tour definitely brought the heat to Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
To kick off the night, Kevin Abstract ran out onto the stage and hopped right into the pit with the fans. He sang and danced with the crowd during the first two songs for quite an intimate moment. It was electric and exciting, and fans were thrilled to be able to be that close to the action.
Hopping back on stage, he then performed some of his most well-known singles, “Empty” and “American Boyfriend.” His magnetic energy radiated throughout the amphitheater, filling the space with smiles and laughter. The crowd went wild when he played “GUMMY,” and other songs from his original project, BROCKHAMPTON. Overall, Kevin Abstract has a memorable performance energy and gave the crowd a great start to a night full of fun music.
Glass Animals began their set with a BANG! They came out to the song “whatthehellishappening?” off their new album “I Love You So F***ing Much”. This tour is titled after the new album, which features the hit song, “Creatures in Heaven.” The stage production is incredible, with a trippy, alien space theme all the way throughout the show.
The energy that each band member brought to the stage bounced off of each other and made it to where the crowd could feel their chemistry. The energy during “Life Itself” picked up so much, you could feel the vibration from every end of the venue. Lead singer Dave Bayley even said this was by far the loudest crowd on the tour so far! The band did a great job curating a setlist that caters to every type of fan. They played just enough from each album, so that no matter if you’re an old fan or a new fan, you get a little taste of each era.
As they made it to what seemed to be the end of the show, two of the most popular tracks hadn’t been played yet. A text “chat” appeared on the screens pointing this out, and alluding to the upcoming encore. The crowd roared and they came back out to play “Heat Waves” and “The Other Side Of Paradise.” The air was filled with love, hugs, and dancing all around, as couples and friends screamed the words to “Heat Waves”, which is by far their most popular song. Glass Animals absolutely crushed this show and Cincinnati loved them!
