Concert Review: Gloria Trevi “Mi Soundtrack” Tour

On February 10, Gloria Trevi brought together the Latino community of Sacramento for a memorable performance at Golden 1 Center on her “Mi Soundtrack” tour.

When the lights dimmed and her band walked on stage, the screens flashed with footage of young Trevi. The room filled with anticipation as words like “provocative” and “original” intermittently flashed on the screen along with controversial news headlines from her past.

After transporting the audience through time with these flashbacks, Trevi’s Silhouette emerged from the dark followed by a loud roar from the crowd. She began the show with “Medusa”, an empowering song about betrayal and resilience. Lyrics like “they throw you, they step on you, they lie to you and they want you to ask for forgiveness,” encapsulate the feeling of being misunderstood and wrongfully blamed. Although Trevi wrote these lyrics based on her personal experiences, they represent universal feelings many can connect with through their own stories.

Mid-song, her dancers surrounded her as they removed her long overcoat, revealing an all-black bodysuit paired with thigh-high boots. Without missing a beat, her dancers lifted her up in the air. She made it look easy as she spread her arms out and stretched her head up to scan the crowd.

As she spoke to the audience in between songs, her dancers helped her change into a colorful, puffy skirt before the next song “Hoy Me Ire De Casa”. A passionate fan in the front row handed Trevi a Mexican flag. The crowd roared as Trevi waved the flag on stage, many thrilled to see representation for their country in Sacramento.

“My Mexican people,” Trevi said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re Latino, in the United States we are brothers and sisters.” Referring to the Latino community living in the US, she urges them to stick together regardless of what Latin American country they are from. The crowd loudly approved of this statement.

Trevi briefly stepped off stage for outfit changes throughout the show. Her band and dancers took the spotlight during these breaks, keeping the audience entertained with elaborate dance routines and impressive instrumental solos.

During one unusually long break, many left their seats for an opportunity to grab drinks at the bar. People rushed back to their seats when Trevi returned, not wanting to miss any of the show. The wait was worth it as she emerged in a sparkly pink outfit with her hit song “Cinco Minutos”.

By the end of the show, even those who seemed disinterested were up on their feet singing along. Trevi ended the show with “Todos Me Miran”, an empowering anthem about self-confidence and overcoming judgment from others.

It was heartwarming to see the venue filled with people of all ages, all brought together by her music. Although her first album was released in 1989, her music and story remain prevalent today, making her a Latin music icon.
